Photographic Awards

Matthew is recognised as a multi-award-winning photographer and photojournalist. While working for Independent Newspapers in Cape Town, South Africa, he achieved top honours in the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards, the Fujifilm Professional Photographic Awards, and the Standard Bank Sikuvile Awards. Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards 2010
Matthew was awarded the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards in the Photography Category for the Western Region for his image of Ashwell Prince and Morne Morkel appealing for an LBW decision against Graeme Onions during a 5 day international match between South African and England at Newlands. Onions stood defiant during the appeal with the ball lodged in his vizor. This image first appeared on the front page of the Cape Argus newspaper.

Gold Award: Fujifilm Professional Photographic Awards 2011
Matthew won the Gold award in the Fujifilm Professional Photographic Awards Sport category for his iconic image of Dale Steyn making a diving catch to dismiss Murali Vijay during a one day international between South Africa and India at Newlands in Cape Town. This image first appeared on the back page of the Cape Times newspaper.

Silver Award: Fujifilm Professional Photographic Awards 2011
In the same competition Matthew was also awarded the silver award in the Fujifilm Professional Photographic Awards Sport Category for his image of Cristiano Ronaldo beating the Korea DPR goalkeeper to score a goal during the World Cup 2010 group stages match played at Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town. Standard Bank Sikuvile Awards 2012
Matthew's iconic image was recognised again as part of the 2012 Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards where it was awarded top place in the Sport category. This is what the judges had to say about the image: "Matthew Jordaan’s perfect moment of Dale Steyn’s catch to dismiss Murali Vijay was a deserved winner. Although we see similar images throughout the year, Jordaan has managed to add an extra element in making Steyn’s catch appear effortless. The disbelief of the batsman is apparent as the umpire cranes for a better view of this great moment." This image first appeared in the Cape Times newspaper.

Picture the Change Environmental Awards Finalist
Matthew made it into the finals of the 2012 installment of the Picture the Change Environmental Awards with his image of a bull rhino waking up with a bandaged horn after a procedure at a game farm which saw a veterinary team poisoning his horn and filling it with dye rendering it useless to poachers in an attempt to curb rhino poaching in the country. This image first appeared as part of a series in the Cape Times newspaper.
